Preparing for College 101
55As students begin working their way through the final years of high
school, many begin to consider college as a good pathway for their future. For some it is both
and an exciting and scary proposition. Preparing for college
is like preparing for any other big event in life. There are far too many
things to consider and even with all the most detailed preparation,
there are bound to be things you have not thought of or that simply
take you by surprise. However, there are some general things that
everyone can do to prepare themselves for college.
The two most
important issues for anyone wishing to go to college is the choosing a
school and the cost of the school. Without knowing what school you are
interested in going to and knowing what you can expect to pay for that
school, any other things you do in preparing for college will be
pointless at best. The matter of price is fairly straightforward.
Either it fits within your budget or it does not. The issue of choosing
a college outside of any financial concerns is a little more difficult.
A person must understand how school size can affect the range of majors
a school can provide. The schools location may also factor in to the
decision making process as well. It is also necessary to know what you
want to study and find a school that offers a quality academic major
program in that particular field.
Although there are many factors to consider when preparing for college, your goals are the single most important factor. We all know that not every college student goes to college intially for the "great education." Maybe its a students first time away from home and the overall college experience is the main benefit. Some students go strictly for fun. Others goe for an Ivy League quality educational experience. Keep in mind your goals and make decision according to those goals.
